School Board Work Session

The Fairfax County Public Schools Board held a Work Session on March 3, 2026, structured around two primary areas of focus. The session began with a closed meeting from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by required certification of compliance with Virginia's open meeting laws. The bulk of the open session was dedicated to reviewing progress on Strategic Plan Goal 2, titled 'Safe, Supported, Included, and Empowered,' which is one of five goals in FCPS's 2023-2030 Strategic Plan adopted in June 2023. Superintendent Dr. Michelle C. Reid and multiple cabinet-level leaders were present to support the discussion.

The afternoon session shifted focus to the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document, Regulation 2601, which undergoes an annual review process. Staff from the Chief Equity Office presented proposed revisions based on stakeholder feedback and updates to Virginia state legislation. The SR&R is aligned with the Virginia Board of Education's Model Guidance on positive and preventative student conduct policies, including alternatives to student suspension.

The session was primarily a work and discussion session rather than a formal action-taking meeting. The Board was asked to review the Goal 2 Strategic Plan Report with a recommendation for approval, and to engage in discussion around proposed SR&R revisions. Minutes and exhibits from the meeting were noted as pending posting at a later date.
